Shayla's Bio
Shayla Price
is currently a student at Southern University and A&M
College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is studying
marketing with a concentration in professional selling.
During high school, Price was actively involved in her
school and community. She held several executive positions
in Student Council, Key Club, BETA Club, and many other
organizations. Her service continued through participation
in the Lafourche Parish Mayor Forum, where she spearheaded
research to explore potential activities, employment and
educational opportunities, and public safety issues
concerning youth. Academically, she enrolled in rigorous
honors courses available at her school.
 |
Price was selected as an American Legion Auxiliary Girls
State Citizen and National Ventures Scholar and received
the President’s Student Service Award for her commitment
to community stewardship.
She became the first student at
her school to be selected from over 1,000 entries to
participate in the production of Channel One News,
a national student television show. She also was chosen as
a Louisiana Young Hero, which gave her the opportunity to
meet Senator Cleo Fields (pictured left) and Governor Kathleen Babineaux
Blanco. In 2004, she graduated as one of the class
valedictorians from Thibodaux High School.
|
When Price was faced with the challenge of financing her
dream of receiving a college degree, she took the
initiative and started looking for ways to pay for her
postsecondary education. After many nights of staying up
late and filling out applications, Price has managed to
receive well over $100,000 in scholarships. She has been
featured in several magazines, including Seventeen,
Teen People, Next Step Magazine, Teen Ink,
and Better Homes and Gardens. She has made
television appearances on BET’s Nightly News and
WWL Channel 4, a CBS affiliate in New Orleans. Price has
also had the opportunity to be interviewed on the radio by
WQUE-FM’s Emmy Award-winning journalist Monica Pierre.
|
Price is currently a member of several organizations,
including the American Marketing Association. She also has
been placed on the dean’s list for her high academic
performance.
Price aspires to become a successful attorney and business
owner. She also hopes to establish a nonprofit
organization that will teach youth how to fund their
college education. One of her dreams is to appear on the
Oprah Winfrey Show.
Shayla Price is the daughter of Sterling and Loretta Price
and has one sibling, Sterling Price Jr.
